A New Adventure {Homeschool & More}

It's back to school time, one of my favorite times... especially because my favorite season is on its way, FALL!

I actually have my degree in Elementary Education which I got about 2 weeks before my daughter Julia was born. Throughout the course of my 3.5 and 5 year olds lives, I have used some of what I learned and will be doing even more as we start a new adventure!

Homeschool!

Well, not totally homeschool.  University-Model Schooling is where children get to go to school part-time and are homeschooled part-time. The director at the school we choose, said "we are the Crossroads where school and homeschool meet."
 "To strengthen America's families and values by helping parents prepare college-worthy, character witnesses of Christ for the next generation." -mission of UMS and Crossroads.
We aren't sure if we will follow this model for this year or for years to come, but this is what we are doing this year and we are so excited about it!

Here's a look at the curriculum we will be using, working alongside with the teachers.

Kindergarten- Lincoln, our son just turned 5, we have been advised to "red-shirt" him but we don't want to hold him back academically so that is why he is starting kindergarten, but will go again next year.

Pre-K- Julia is only 3 1/2 but with her big brother going to school, I wanted to have her in the pre-k program as well. She has been in a Mother's Day Out program since she was 2 so I am excited about this opportunity for her, she won't start Kindergarten until the Fall of 2014.

  3. Hello! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your plan for school this year looks exciting and I love the mission statement that you share above for the school. I had not heard of it before, but it sounds great! You asked me if I have any advice for your first year. Now that my two kiddos are 9 and 11, I fondly look back on our early home school days. It is fun to teach them new things, but my advice would be to not forget to keep taking some time to play with them and just enjoy being together. I have also used various types of planners over the years and I guess the "teacher" in me loves having a written plan and a record of all that we have done at the end of each year! I hope it's a great year for all of you! Keep in touch!
