Family Life put together a survey that shows just what a family needs to function as a healthy unit. Many of the points are important, but I think points that stick out for creating a healthy family time are: Developing healthy living and Eating habits and Developing and Improving family communications.
A school, a church, a nutritionist can offer much to learn and glean from, but really, it is our job as the parents to teach our children everything about life and that includes healthy eating, exercise and living habits!
Our children are learning what is and isn't healthy from us. According to the CDC, about one-third of U.S. adults (33.8%) are obese, and approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese. So we need to be mindful of the choices we are making in regards to being physically active (especially in front of them) as well as serving healthy meals to our family.
We need to show them that exercise is important by actually doing it, that means doing your Wii Fit, going to the gym or a walk and also being active as a family.

Last night as we got out of the car in the gym parking lot, my daughter said, "Are you going to ezercize mommy?" I told her, "Yes I am, so I can be healthy."
Since we're talking about spending time as a family I wanted to give you some activities for exercising as a family.
Family Fitness Ideas:
- Family Burst Training
- Backyard Fun-Playing Tag, Frisbee, Football
- Dancing to your favorite tunes or YouTube videos
- Go for a walk when it's nice out

What family fitness activities do you like to do?

Hi, thanks for featuring my Steak and Kidney Stew! This week I'm sharing two yummy recipes - Asian Dumpling Soup and Tacos on Rice. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteWow! I am chosen! THANKS!!! :-) Totally made my day!
ReplyDeleteI linked to my new recipe for a nice twist on Cranberry Sauce. I really don't like all the recipes out there with white sugar and citrus, so I used maple syrup and ginger instead and the result was delicious!
ReplyDeleteHi, Rachel!! I love knowing more about things to do for colds and flu. I am an RN, but don't anymore buy the traditional approach. I , like you, am finding alternative, god-given methods so much safer, less costly, and just make so much more sense.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
