5 "Natural" Products I Love

There are tons of homemade recipes for several home and personal care products but not all of us have the time to make our own. And when choosing to go the “organic or natural” route it can be daunting because many products labeled “natural”  may be misleading, so we have to be careful about what food and home & personal care products we buy!

Check out this:

sold in bulk at Sams Club

This is Accent, the All Natural Flavor Enhancer. It says it “Wakes Up Food Flavor!” It is all natural MSG, that’s right,  monosodium glutamate is NATURAL but that doesn’t mean it’s good for you!

I have came up with a quick list of 5 natural things I use for myself and/or our family and today I’m going to present them to you on my very first Vlog or video blog.

  1. Driscolls’s Organic Raspberries– in my vlog I said strawberries probably from the distraction seeing my daughter get up from her nap, lol. These are Driscoll brand from Sams Club and are only $3.98 for 12 oz or a whole pint. At any other grocery store organic raspberries can cost about $3.98+ for a half pint, so if you can get to a Sams Club you will save $$$.  **Click on the link to email sign up for a .50 coupon**
  2. India Tree Natural Food Coloring– This stuff isn’t cheap in comparison to the artificial kind but is well worth it considering the effects food dyes can have on you. (here is a post I wrote about food colors)
  3. Jason Sea Fresh Toothpaste– this stuff has a fresh peppermint taste and does make your mouth feel clean. We have tried numerous natural toothpastes and I enjoy this one the most. No flouride, No Preservatives, No Artificial colors or sweeteners, etc.
  4. Burt’s Bee’s Herbal Insect Repellent– This stuff was around $5 and works pretty good, however, it is oily so be careful to not get it on your clothes. (wash hands after rubbing it on skin) and the scent is strong.
  5. Organic Wear Make up– I haven’t transitioned all my make up to natural/organic make up because it is just too expensive for us right now to be honest. However, what I apply on my face first I wanted to be a product that is safe since what I put on my face/skin soaks right into my body. It is very smooth and I really feel like it is just a moisturizer rather than a thick foundation. It was only around $6 at Target and believe they have it at Walmart now as well.

Disclaimer: These are products I like and wasn’t paid to say so although I would love some free samples, lol!

  1. Hi there! I just came to check out your blog after you visited mine (Whole New Mom). I am so glad you don’t like Accent – Yuk!

I notice your interest in natural food coloring. I have a number of posts using food products for coloring. The most recent was Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream. Here is the link: http://wholenewmom.com/recipes/mint-chocolate-chip-ice-cream-w-dairy-free-and-sugar-free-options/

    Hope you enjoy it!

  2. I have heard about that food coloring and it’s actually been in my Amazon cart for a while now. How long does it last you?

  3. Love your video credits by the way! I hate watching myself on video too!! I always think, “Is that really what my voice sounds like?” LOL

  4. I am going to check out that natural food dye. I don’t use the chemical stuff very often, but it would be nice to have a natural alternative when I do use it.

    Blessings,
LaVonne @ Long Wait For Isabella

  5. Have you addressed the Burt’s Bees products not being natural elsewhere on your blog? I’ve not heard that before, and we love their lip balm. It would not make me too happy to have to change…I don’t much like change. 😉

Loved the vlog and hope you do more! Blessings to you and your sweet family, ~Lisa

  6. Find here indian business directory for your herbal products business. This directory helps you to find out suppliers and manufacturers from all over world.

  7. Hi Rachel,
I shared my Vegetable Walnut Dip and an article about cholesterol. I also shared the link to my Cod Liver Oil Giveaway — hope that is OK. IF not, just delete!

  8. Lisa- I take saying that they’re “not natural” back, they are or atleast they say they are on their website but what I should have said was just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it’s good for you (like the Accent enhancer). The lip balm’s are FINE!

I encourage you and anyone else wondering to look at the cosmeticdatabase.com and read about ingredients in any of your personal care items. And like I’ve mentioned elsewhere, we can’t avoid 100% of things, all we can do is the best for our family, and it is one step at a time process. 🙂

Glad ya’ll were intrigued by the India Tree coloring. Adreienne- I’ll check out your posts!
Brynna- It last a while (on packaging it has a expiration date but I still used it after & we’re fine (for now anyway, lol) I think the SAME thing about my voice, hope it’s not annoying to you all!

Jill- I’m glad you shared a giveaway, I’m gonna enter it!

  9. I never even thought about an alternative to food coloring! Great idea. I will have to look into that. 🙂 I just found your site today–great find!

Living So Abundantly: New meme, Give Back Thursday, starting tomorrow, July 7, 2011–come join the fun!

  10. It always makes me crazy when I see a product being marketed as “natural” like that! So misleading. It is frustrating that consumers have to be so careful about the labels, but until there is a standard for “natural”, you definitely can’t trust it. Look for USDA Organic and read ingredient lists.

  11. I know this isn’t the point of this post, but the thing that I found most interesting is that you don’t like Burt’s Bees! I would love for you to write a post explaining why.
