Another one of my 30 before 30 goals is to get organized, check out the 30 before 30 page to see more about my goals or get some ideas to make your own list. I am pretty good at organizing events, delegating somewhat and leading people, however, when it comes to my home, I'm not and I will probably never be one of those type A, clean freak, home is perfect all the time people, although I like the idea of it.
My house isn't dirty or hoarder-ish, but you would not be able to have a "white glove" test every week, think that the laundry is nice & tidy, the cabinets are perfect, or even that the floors are sparkly. I am just not that much of a stickler to have my house in such order 24-7. I want my house to be clean/picked up and presentable when guests are coming over or when my husband comes home from work.
However, I want to find a balance between having things in order & clutter free (so I don't silently scream "WHOLLY COW" when there is an unexpected knock at the door and am embarrassed to have someone come in) and having a routine not only to keep our home in order but also just have a schedule for our day to day life which can be the biggest clutter of them all. I heard a quote once "fail to plan = plan to fail" and I think it is so true, if I don't decided either mentally or by writing something down to do this errand, clean out that, etc., than for me most likely it doesn't get done and sometimes I add to much to my list and just "throw in the towel" because I get so overwhelmed.
Thankfully I won a giveaway from We are that Family. I won the book Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider. It's an easy read and she includes parts about living simply in the real world and in your home. Today, I am on Day 1 of Ten Days to a Simpler, More Organized Home and it feels to freeing so far and I have removed a lot of useless clutter!
Some starter tips to organizing your home:
- do sweat the big stuff, start by focusing on the clutter in each room
- move through each room with a garbage can, box or basket for selling at a yard sale or donating
- throw away & get rid of something out of each room
- listen to music you like
- make a plan to get to the big stuff one room at a time (1 room a day)

I didn't get my "list" done before I turned 30, so now I'm doing "30 in 30" - 30 things in the year I turned 30! :) Getting organized is on my list as well! ;) Thanks for the tips! ...I'm following you now... :)
ReplyDeleteMusic is a must! So much more fun than the drone of the Disney channel--if the kids are dancing they're not upending stuff!
ReplyDeleteLove you Rachel, you are my inspiration.
